Care Provider
Edward K. Barnes, MD
Dr. Barnes has been with Tennessee Oncology since July 2002. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Oncology and Hematology. Dr. Barnes attended Vanderbilt University where he completed his fellowship training in both Oncology and Hematology as well as working in basic science research in tumor cell biology. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee’s School of Medicine and did his undergraduate education at the University of South Alabama. Prior to medical school, Dr. Barnes participated in cancer research at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Dr. Barnes specializes in all adult malignancies as well as benign hematologic illnesses. He actively participates in clinical cancer research, enrolling appropriate patients into ongoing clinical trials. This gives his patients convenient and local access to newest and most promising cancer medicine available. He feels that his past experience with basic science and his current understanding of clinical cancer medicine gives him a unique perspective to provide the best care of his patients.
When away from the office, Dr. Barnes is an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, boating and SCUBA. Growing up directly on the Alabama gulf coast, he will never be far from the water. He lives in the Hendersonville area with his wife, Laura, who is also a Tennessee Oncology physician. They have one daughter who is currently in high school. Being obvious dog lovers, the Barnes family shares their home with a small pack of dogs, ranging from a 3 lb Chihuahua to a 90 lb black lab…and all are spoiled rotten.
